With Opus 2 version 7.3, assign Character values to Chronology entries in bulk with the new “Link Entries to Characters” tool.

This workflow also makes use of the new ability to make changes to your Chronology entries in bulk ,with the option of updating any of your Chronology fields using an import file; each Chronology entry is now assigned a unique ID that can be used for matching upon import of new or updated data.

In the Chronology tab > Tools options, run an export to either CSV or XLSX.

Please note: All Characters in your import file need to already be previously set up in a Characterworksheet in the workspace.  Unlike tags, Opus 2 does not create new characters at import time. Additionally, please ensure that the Characters are set up in "FirstName LastName" format with NO COMMAS in between so that they will be recognized by the tool at time of export.

Open the exported file in Excel and locate/isolate the entries you wish to add Character values to, and add the Character(s) to the corresponding Character column. The unique ID assigned to these entries will ensure that the values are added to the correct entry in the Chronology.

Please ensure that ALL OTHER DATA/COLUMNS are preserved and unchanged in the import file to ensure they all carry back into the Chronology at the time of import.

Once the spreadsheet is saved and ready, go back to the Chronology tab > Tools, and select Import Entries. Match the column headers to the correct fields in the Import Entries dialog:

When all columns are correctly matched to their field names, hit Import. This will save any changes to the corresponding entries. Please note that you will not yet see the Character values applied to the entries until after the next steps.

Once changes are applied, go to Tools drop-down and select Link Entries to Characters.

The resulting dialog will automatically pull up any un-matched Character values that were just added to the Chronology. When you havce confirmed that the values are correct, click on Create Links.

The Character values will then be added to all entries included in the import.

NOTE: Once re-imported, the Chronology Sources will need to be re-linked. Please use the Tools > Link Entries to Sources button to re-link all sources.
